Busboys & Poets Author’s Talk
Dr. Brooks ended her 2018 Book tour, where it all began in the DMV. She participated in an Author’s Talk and was interviewed by Vanessa Williams, National Reporter at The Washington Post. There, Dr. Brooks shared the fascinating story of Lucile H. Bluford, and how she used her formidable power base of her newspaper to fight racism and sexism during the 1960’s civil rights movement and the 1970’s women’s rights movement.
Northeastern University Fireside Chat
Dr. Sheila Brooks traveled to Boston, Massachusetts for a book event at Northeastern University. This event was hosted by the Northeastern University School of Journalism, John D. O’Bryant African American Institute, Kelly Chunn & Associates and the Boston Association of Black Journalists. Dr. Brooks was interviewed by Dan Lothian, founder of Little Park Media and former CNN White House correspondent and CNN's Boston Bureau Chief. The event was attended by nearly 50 students who were engaged and excited to learn about Ms. Bluford’s legacy and how it relates to them as current journalism students.
Leadership Greater Washington Author’s Showcase
Leadership Greater Washington (LGW) hosted its first ever Author’s Showcase at the Pepco Edison Gallery in Washington, D.C. The 13 selected authors had the opportunity to provide a short overview of their books to the audience, sell and sign books, and network with other fantastic authors and LGW members.

and Mass Communications Conference
The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (AEJMC) has the largest audience of journalism and mass communication educators at the college level, in one location. Dr. Sheila Brooks and co-author Dr. Clinton Wilson II attended this conference with book publisher, Rowman and Littlefield, who sold copies of their new book.

2018 Convention and Author’s Showcase
The 2018 NABJ Annual Convention & Career Fair is the premier venue for journalism education, career development and networking. Leaders in journalism, media, technology, business, and arts & entertainment attended the conference in Detroit, Michigan. Over 3,000 attendees were present for the five-day convention, including Dr. Sheila Brooks, and three members of the
SRB Communications team. Throughout the convention the team attended workshops, receptions, and assisted with media interviews. Dr. Brooks was also one of 30 authors selected to participate in the esteemed Author’s Showcase where she was interviewed by Vanessa Williams of the Washington Post. The interview was followed by a book signing where Dr. Brooks sold books and met with conference attendees.
Kansas City, Missouri Media Day
For the next stop on her book tour, Dr. Sheila Brooks took a trip to her hometown, Kansas City, Missouri. While there, she had a television interview on KSHB’s Kansas City Live, a radio interview on KCUR’s Up to Date Show, and a book lecture at the Kansas City Public Library titled “Lucile Bluford: Her National Closeup.”

The Washington Association of Black Journalists (WABJ) hosted a fireside chat with Dr. Sheila Brooks to discuss her illustrious career and the release of her new book.
Annual ColorComm Conference and Book Signing
Dr. Sheila Brooks served as the ColorComm Conference Emcee for the 5th year in a row. This year’s conference took place in Maui, Hawaii and Dr. Brooks was able to sign and sell copies of her new book each day.
