March 2019 - Women's History Month

50th NAACP Image Awards

Dr. Sheila Brooks was nominated for an NAACP Image Award in the Outstanding Literary Work category for “Debut Author”! She traveled to Los Angeles, California for the 50th Annual Awards Ceremony. While in L.A., Dr. Brooks began negotiating a television
documentary deal for her book!

Les Gemmes 12th Annual Literary Luncheon 

Participating in the Nashville, Tennessee Les Gemmes 12th Annual Literary Luncheon was a great experience for Dr. Brooks. Not only did she meet new authors, but she obtained great exposure for her book, "Lucile H. Bluford and the Kansas City Call: Activist Voice for Social Justice.

Dr. Sheila Brooks traveled to PECO in Philadelphia to speak to their Network of Exelon Women group. This event was extra special because Michael Days, VP of Diversity and Inclusion for Philadelphia Media Network and Former Editor of Philadelphia Daily News, was the event moderator.
